Twenty-seven inch length lariat style necklace consists of a four and one-quarter inch length drop with locket. The locket features on the obverse side: a painted dancing maiden with a painted floral surround set within a blue guilloche, enameled background and the reverse side: a single painted flower with single painted flowers in the three corners also set within a blue guilloche, enamel background. The locket opens by pressing a blue crystal adorned stem. The necklace is completed by a blue guilloche, enamel station chain, terminating in a spring ring clasp. Bright polish finish. The necklace is reminiscent of the jewelry designs from the Victorian Period. The Victorian period gets its name from England's Queen Victoria, who at eighteen was crowned in 1837. The queen was the leading influence on jewelry styles for the next sixty years. It became fashionable to wear several necklaces at once and tower chokers high on the neck. The jewelry of the period is characterized by light, open work using several techniques of filigree, piercing, cannetille and repouss.
