MASEFIELD JOHN: (1878-1967) English Poet & Writer, Poet Laureate 1930-67. Series of six A.Ls.S., John Masefield (2; the others with his first name only), eleven pages (total), most oblong 8vo, Boar's Hill, Oxford and Burcote Brook, Abingdon, n.d., all to Ruth Robinson. Masefield writes a series of social letters to his friend, thanking her for Birthday greetings and gifts, and also reciprocating them, in part, 'your speaking was very beautiful & much liked by all the judges. Perhaps in the flat moments which follow a contest you will not mind my writing to tell you this'; 'I read through the plays at once, & wished that there had been more, & that I had been able to see them. They give chances to a lot of young people - & they demand also a lot of happy care in the mounting & dressing. All best wishes for the success of your T.V. script…'; 'I hope that you take to the Hardy country, & go up to the Land of Slyre to hear the peewits as in A Revisitation' Together with a 12mo signed and inscribed greetings card by Masefield (some staining to the front cover), a signed and inscribed printed 8vo copy of The Starry Night and a signed and inscribed 8vo edition of An Elizabethan Theatre in London, signed and inscribed to the title page 'For Ruth Robinson from John, Christmas 1965' and numbered 88 in his hand (some light foxing to the paper covers).
