LESLIE WALTER: (1607-1667) Scottish Soldier & Diplomat, Imperial Field Marshal and Count of the Holy Roman Empire. L.S., W: Leslie, (an excellent, bold example), two pages, folio, Posonij, 26th June 1651, in Latin. Leslie writes as a mediator towards Emperor Ferdinand III ('…cum ex officio et obligatione, inter Ma[jesta]tem Vs. et Regnicolas mediatorem me agere oporteat, credo…') in a matter of inheritance on behalf of the Augustinian monks of Vienna, the letter largely of judicial content. At the time of the present letter Leslie had been made a Field Marshal and appointed Governor of the Croatian-Slavonian Military Frontier.
