ISABEL II: (1830-1904) Queen of Spain 1833-68. L.S., Isabelle de Bourbon, three pages, 4to, Paris, 13th December 1877, to the Chief of Police, in French, on her attractive printed stationery. The Queen informs her correspondent 'tonight between 10 hours and midnight, two individuals self-styled the Count of Miramon and Xavier Feuillant, remained 3 hours.......and knocked several times to the Palace door with the pretext of giving us offensive letters...´ further stating ´Here is the last letter received at midnight after making a stink to my front house; closed as we received it, I send it to you and I beg you at the same time to make them respect my home and to prevent such scandals by people only looking for money.´ Together with the Queen's personal visiting card bearing a brief note in her hand, in Spanish, 'Kindly asks her chaplain Monseigneur Marin to tell Mr. Aurélien Scholl that I wish to see him tonight from 9 and ½ till 11.´ With the original envelope. Also including eight A.Ls.S., Ramiro de la Puente by the Marquis of Alta Villa, eighteen pages (total), 8vo, Paris, 13th December 1877 - 9th February 1878, to Aurélien Scholl, in French. All letters are related to the Marquis of Valcarlos affair regarding a letter which was partially published in the Parisian newspapers referring to the Queen´s private life in Paris. The Queen invites Scholl for dinner several times those days and thanks him later for his articles. Stating on 13th December ´I have sent a letter to the witnesses of Valcarlos...´ and on a different letter same day ´Her Majesty the Queen instructs me to send you this letter enclosing copy of the letter she has just sent to the chief of police. Her Majesty wishes that you are aware of all happening so you will be able to say and publish what you want regarding the Queen´s opinion.´ On a further letter three days after ´Sir and friend, I have been told that on today´s Figaro there is a small article accusing me..´ A ninth letter is sent to an unknown friend referring to a Spanish comic opera El Molinero de Subira and requesting information regarding author´s royalties etc... Also including a A.L.S., ´Mgneur Marin´ sent by the Queen´s chaplain to Aurélien Scholl. Also including two visit cards of the Queen´s secretary and a third one of Manuel Silvela Embassador of Her Majesty. Some with minor center folds, otherwise VG, 15
Ramiro de la Puente (1845-1909) Marquis of Alta Villa. Barrister to the State in Court, served as personal Secretary 1875-82 of the Queen Isabel II. It is said that De la Puente had a long sentimental affair with Isabel II. He was often accused from Spain of taking most decisions on behalf of the Queen.
Aurélien Scholl (1833-1902) French Journalist and Playwright. Well known Parisian journalist, involved in several duels, chief editor of the Voltaire and the Echo of Paris , he published many controversial articles on The Figaro.

Raimundo Güell y de Borbón (1849-1907), First Marquis of Valcarlos. At that time was a military serving at the Spanish Embassy in France. He was accused by the Queen to the chief of police in Paris for being the author of a slanderous letter. The Marquis of Valcarlos always accused Ramiro de la Puente of being the instigator and real author of the letter and threatened to kill him several times.
