Description

English School, "Portrait of a Gentleman with a Cane," 19th c., oil on canvas, presented in a gilt frame, H.- 36 in., W.- 28 in.

Condition

Condition consistent with age. Not examined out of the frame. Craquelure observed throughout. Slight stretcher marks noted. Minor losses observed along edges, possibly due to rubbing from the frame. A centimeter sized loss is noted in the center, to the right of the gentleman’s head. Canvas is slightly warped, and appears to have been relined. A striking portrait. ALL PROPERTY IS SOLD “AS IS.” NO STATEMENT REGARDING CONDITION OF ANY ITEM, WHETHER IT IS MADE ORALLY AT THE AUCTION OR ANY OTHER TIME, OR IN WRITING IN THE CATALOGUE OR ELSEWHERE, SHALL BE DEEMED TO BE A WARRANTY, REPRESENTATION, OR ASSUMPTION OF LIABILITY.
