Description
Continental School, "Cupid's Fountain," early 19th c., grisaille oil on canvas, depicting cupid drinking from a fountain laden with fruit, with musical instruments at the base, presented in a gilt frame, H.- 38 in., W.- 32 1/8 in.
Condition
Condition consistent with age. Examined under ultraviolet light. A heavy consistent craquelure is noted throughout. A mild black paint spray and residue is detected mildly at the center of the image and near the outermost edges, but is not distracting from the overall presentation. An apparent horizontal stretcher mark is observed near the center. Intermittent chip loss to the paint is noted. Inpainting is not apparent.
