A VERY UNUSUAL LARGE SIGNED JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD MIYAO PARCEL GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF A SAMURAI, from the workshop of Miyao Eisuke, the figure holding an ormolu acanthus branch supporting clock movement contained in a Japanese cloisonné globular case and surmounted by a Japanese carved ivory finial of a farmer resting on a basket of produce, the whole supported on a shaped ormolu base, the costume of the samurai partially gilded and finely decorated with storks, waves and other motifs, the reverse side with a small rectangular signature plaque, 32in high overall.
