A GIANT IVORY PERISCOPE OR PAPARAZZI STICK.
Date: 1900. Country: French.
Sold in 1900 by the St. Etienne stick makers the Giant Eye was an overnight success. The top detaches and a camera is screwed to the top of the stick with a remote shutter puller. This is then raised aloft and by looking through the lens in the ferrule end of the cane you can see over a wall or crowd to ascertain where the camera is pointed. Fantastic fun. French. 37ins long.
