Item Details

Description

An unusual measure gadget cane. Made with a thick hardwood shaft, It has a silver metal handle that is 3/4" high and 1 1/2" across the top. Protruding from the top is an "L" shaped metal arm with notched teeth. When the arm is lifted to measure, a meter registers the length in inches and can be read through a small glass widow. The device is in working order. There is a worn and torn paper label on the side of the shaft that may have had working instructions on it at one time. The overall length including the metal arm is 38" and the piece was never made with an original ferrule. It is American and made around the mid- 20th Century. It is a unique gadget cane example and the exact usage is not known and can only be speculated. Estimate: $500-$700.
