A whimsical walrus ivory cane of a housefly

Item Details

Description

A whimsical walrus ivory cane of a housefly. The ivory handle is 4 1/4" high and 1 1/2" across its flat mushroom top. Carved in very high relief on the top is a detailed, fat housefly complete with antennae and long legs. Below the handle's stem there is a 1/2" decorated silver collar on a flexible stepped malacca shaft that ends with a 1 1/2" brass and iron ferrule. The overall length is 35 1/2" and the condition is very good. It is perhaps American, ca 1885, and it is a very nice example with an amusing subject. Estimate: $600-$800.
