Description
Chinese fan, 18th century, painted on paper laid on vellum depicting a European galleon on a beach with cargo and figures, the ivory guards carved with a European man in a cocked hat, length 26cm; a large gimp lace fan with shell guards decorated with floral sprays, late 19th century, the leaf of scrolling foliage on ivory and shell ribs, length 35cm; Chinese painted feather fan with pierced bone guards and sticks, length 22cm (3)
Condition
Chinese fan: repair and minor splits on the guards, the vellum and paper have splits along the folds although not along the whole length, one pair of folds are stuck together; the painted colours are good. Lace fan: repaired splits to the guards, +/- 4cm missing from one ivory mount; slight staining to the lace. Feather fan: most of the vanes have losses, the guards and sticks have minor losses to the piercing.
