Description
Attributed to Isaac Fuller (British, 1606-1672) Portrait of a Gentleman in a dark brown cloak, holding a letter oil on canvas, unframed 72 x 57cm (28 x 22in)Another portrait is known of the same sitter in a private collection - the other portrait is inscribed on the reverse'Prince Rupert pinxit Dobson'. The National Portrait Gallery identified the other portrait of the same sitter as by Isaac Fuller and that that they did not think it was Prince Rupert (who, apart from anything else, was not clean-shaven). However, there is a small painting of Prince Rupert at Traquair in the Scottish Borders where he is clean-shaven.
Condition
Oil in lined canvas. Some slightly raised areas of paint which may require minor consolidation. Paint layer structure in good condition. Varnish is clear and even. Unframed. Cleaned.
