Description
An Egyptian light blue-green faience tile, 3rd Dynasty, c. 2686 - 2613 BC, of convex rectangular form and pierced at the back just beneath a raised rectangular lug. 2 3/8 in x 1 ½ in (5.8 x 3.8 cm). Attractive pale blue color with minor chipping and weathering. Cf. F. Dunn Friedman, Gifts of the Nile, Ancient Egyptian Faience. (London, 1998), p. 72 and 180, nos. 17-20 for examples from the tomb of kind Djoser, the builder of the Step Pyramid. Ex Hamdy Sakr collection, London, acquired in the 1960’s - 1970’s.
