Description
COL A very interesting collection of 30 letters written to the celebrated English artist Frederick Goodall (1819-1908) from prominent painters, theatre people and musicians, also including a letter in French to his daughter Frederica. Highlights comprise: a letter dated 16th November 1892 from Lawrence Alma-Tadema, a 1895 letter from John Everett Millais enquiring after a model for a composition, as well as letters from Shakespearean actresses such as Evelyn Millard and Lily Hanbury. Frederick Goodall was a member of the Royal Academy and one of the most praised painters of the Victorian Age, specialising in historical and oriental subjects. The wide range of his correspondents testifies to the high esteem in which he was held by his fellow painters and other protagonists of the cultural scene in London towards the end of the 19th century. Viewing recommended.
