Description
AL A 14 x 9 cm letter from Charlotte Brontë. One octavo, written in ink on front page and initialled "CB". The letter is dated Feb 13 - 46 and addressed to Ellen Nussey (here addressed in the more affectionate form "Nell"). The letter discusses a potential visit to Brookroyd in Birstal, Leeds, and asks for more information about coaches from Bradford. With blank verso and blank conjugate leaf, 2 horizontal folds, small blind-stamp and a few tiny puncture marks to upper corner, but overall in very good condition. Ellen Nussey (20 1817-97) was a lifelong friend and correspondent of Charlotte Brontë and, through more than 500 letters received from her, was a major source for Elizabeth Gaskell's 1857 biography The Life of Charlotte Brontë . Listed in Smith's Letters of Charlotte Brontë , vol.I p.452, declaring "MS untraced".
