Description
ANS A clipped signature by Charles Dickens "Wednesday Nineteenth September 1860. Faithfully yours Charles Dickens" on the front page of a 9.1 x 22 cm double folded, light blue headed "Gad`s Hill Place, Higham by Rochester, Kent" paper. It is reported that Dickens was a nine year old boy when he first saw Gad`s Hill Place and that his father told him that if he had worked hard enough, one day he would have been the owner of such a mansion. On 14 March 1856 Dickens actually managed to buy Gad`s Hill Place. He had to sell it in 1879 due to his poor health conditions. Some faint yellowing to the edges, slightly fading ink, a glue stain on the back. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Chaucer Covers and Autographs Ltd. and a 1940s colour postcard view of Gad`s Hill Place.
