Description
Central Europe, along Danube River Valley, Ca 200 to 300 CE. Pair of lead plaques from what has been called the "Mystery Cult" which penetrated the Roman empire from the east. The term Mystery probably applies from the sacred initiations required to become a member. Each plaque made of impressed lead sheet - one with a number of individuals in military garb, a caldron, horses and snakes; other is mostly obscured. 3-5/8" H for largest.
