A FINE LOUIS XVI STYLE PARCEL GILT AND CARVED WOOD TAPESTRY UPHOLSTERED SETTEE, BY MAISON KREIGER, LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY, with a recess paneled and leaf tip detailed crest rail above a rectangular floral tapestry upholstered back, flanked by fluted stiles surmounted by fluted and beaded spherical finials, continuing to downswept and padded arms ending in paterae handrests, on twist fluted baluster form supports on a similarly upholstered bowed seat over a conforming leaf tip detailed seat rail, raised on paterae block capitals on tapering fluted legs ending in stylized toupie feet. En suite with Lot 245. NOTE: Maison Kreiger was a Parisian fine furniture workshop launched by Antoine Kreiger and his brother Nicolas in 1826, at 17, Rue Saint-Nicolas. The brothers workshop changed names throughout the 19th Century but was known as Maison Kreiger until circa 1900. By 1880, this enterprise was a well known marchands-mercier as well as a manufacturer of fine French furniture. Their reputation for producing excellent reproductions, including stylistic interpretations, resulted in their being a source for the powerful and wealthy but also to other fine furniture makers and retail establishments. Maison Kreiger employed up to 1,200 people at its height but eventually ceased operations around 1900. Height: 42 3/8" Width: 52" Depth: 23"
