Description
Pre-columbian Chimu Corn god Vessel from Peru, ca. 1100 – 1450 AD. Rare orangware type with a seated Maiz god surrounded by maiz ears and holding a Tumbo Plant Vine. The box form of this vessel serves as a throne or platform. In most of the highly developed cultures of the New World, maize was the most important plant, as a status symbol, if not always as the primary staple.
