Description
Moche Mosaic Earplugs from Peru, ca. 200-700 A.D. Large ear ornaments with circular frontals and long tubular shafts in back, which counterbalanced the weight of the frontals, were common personal adornments of prominent individuals on Peru's North Coast for at least a millennium. They were a symbol of wealth and power. Made from Shell, Turquoise, Sodalite and gypsum. Depicting a diety figure holding a Tumi knife in one hand and a trophy head in the other.
