Important Maya Fossilized god G Mask from Campeche - Mexico, ca. 600-900 A.D. Carved from a large piece of fossilized bone in the form of the god G. K'inich Ahau was the sun god also known as god G in the Maya codices. This particular mask is unique in many reasons and one is that it is probably the only known example to be carved in this material for this particular character. A comparable example is the Rio Azul mask which is carved in fuschite and housed in the collection of Barber Mueller. A very rare object and a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire such a fantastic mask.
