(Ralph, Lord Cromwell, third baronet, administrator, treasurer of England, 1393?-1456) Quitclaim by "Ranulph de Crowmwell" to Nicholas Fitzwilliam of the Manor of Baildon, witnesses: John Sayvell Knight, John Hastyngs and William Fitz William, manuscript in Latin, on vellum, 6 lines, red wax seal of a flower, folds, browned, 83 x 257mm., Bestwode [Bestwood, Nottinghamshire], 1448. Ralph, Lord Cromwell had a varied career in royal service. He started under the patronage of Thomas Duke of Clarence, fought at the battle of Agincourt and was probablly present at the death of Joan of Arc. In 1433 he became treasurer of England, a position he held for ten years. Later he joined with Richard Duke of York. Maud Cromwell, daughter of the first Baron Cromwell married William Fitzwilliam Kt. in 1377.
