DESCRIPTION: This is a New England Shaker handmade black ash cheese basket from the Mount Lebanon Shaker Community circa 1800s. The Shaker cheese basket is circular in shape that is not as well known as the Shaker hexagonal weave cheese basket. This Shaker cheese basket is made of black ash splints with double thick carved bentwood handles that are notched and tapered into the sides. The bottom of the basket has a wide open weave to allow for the drainage of the cheese and still has a white residue stain on the inside and bottom from the milk product used during the cheese making process. MEASUREMENTS: 12 ½ Inches Long, 9 Inches Wide, and 5 1/2 Inches High.
Condition
Excellent condition except a few minor splints that are broken as shown in the photos.
