Provenance: Private collection, Saxony-Anhalt
Scenic view over a vast landscape with lake, executed in fine brushwork
The landscape was created by a painter from the circle of the Munich landscape painter Johann Georg von Dillis. The view from a forest shows an idyllic scenery immersed in the atmosphere of a diffused light. The work is defined by a coherent perspective and harmonious color scheme with lush greens and browns in the foreground, which are replaced by delicate pastel hues in the distance. Dillis painted primarily scenes of peasant life and pastoral landscapes inspired by the works of Claude Lorrain. In addition he created numerous sketches during his travels through Italy, which later served as templates for oil paintings.
The painting is in good condition. It shows craquelure and partially retouchings to the trees and the edges. The frame shows some wear. The framed work measures 60 x 76.5 cm, the stretcher frame measures 50.5 x 66.5 cm. (tfa)
