Fischl is next to Lucian Freud and Maria Lassnig one of the most important representatives of figurative painting; the auction record for a print of his is set above €39,000

This print, a lithograph in colors executed on wove paper, was created by the US-American artist Eric Fischl in 2002. Fischl belongs next to Lucian Freud and Maria Lassnig to the most important representatives of American Realism in strict figurative painting. As a reaction to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, in New York, he created the series ‘Ten Breaths’, which comprised sculptures and drawings. In the present work, the artist shows two tumbling people in free fall, a reference to the people who jumped out of the windows of the World Trade Center in escape of the fire.

The work is signed and dated lower right in pencil ‘Fischl ´02’, as well as numbered lower left in pencil ‘40/50’. The sheet is mounted in several points on cardboard and framed. Work and frame are in very good condition with hardly any traces of wear. The sheet is 76 x 55 cm in size and the total dimensions, including the frame, are 88 x 68.5 cm.
