64. Ivory Dragon Cane-Ca. 1900-Ivory ball handle carved with a dragon breeding two large eggs, well-streaked rosewood shaft with a plain, gilt metal collar and a stag horn ferrule. The legendary creature with reptilian traits and lizard-type legs, serpentine tail and bat wings is depicted seated on a bed of bones with a human skull which conjures an underground lair or cave. With the narratives about dragons often involve them being killed by a hero, this cane probably has symbolic or heraldic ties.
