De Kooning’s dynamic career in the United States gave him a pivotal role in the Post-War Contemporary Art world. His works are featured in major collections around the world including MoMA and Metropolitan Museum here in New York.

In the late 1980s de Kooning was plagued by Alzheimer’s disease and retired to South Hampton, NY. In 1990 he completed his last six recorded paintings. He found relief in the art and music which surrounded him throughout his life.

Given by Willem de Kooning to Ms. Grace Tafe Wilcots, who served as a nurse’s aide for approximately eight years
