Description
Collection of documents from the estate of David (Davis) Trietsch and the estate of his wife Emma Trietsch. Germany and Eretz Israel, late 19th century, first half of 20th century. German.
Collection includes about 40 letters and postcards sent to David Trietsch and about the same number of letters sent to his wife Emma (Mina) née Thomaschensky; several letters handwritten by Trietsch, to his relatives; several letters addressed to Emanuel Trietsch, David's son, (water engineer in Israel) or to his family; several family photos. The letters were not thoroughly examined.
David (David) Trietsch, native of Dresden 1870, participated in the first Zionist Congress and in following ones, member of the Congress executive board; in cooperation with Berthold Feivel, Martin Buber and Leo Winz, founded, in 1900, the monthly periodical Ost und West and in cooperation with Otto Warburg - the monthly periodical "Palestine". Founded in 1903, with some friends, the "Juedisher Verlag" and the "Oriental Settlement Society" which promoted his plan to settle Jews in Cyprus (during the Uganda Plan initiative). Passed away in Eretz Israel in 1935 and was interred in "Ramot HaShavim".
