A mourning picture of a woman standing beside a tomb, surrounded by a folk art landscape highlighted with trees and buildings, the tomb plaques inscribed In memory of Rob Francis Who departed this life Nov 14th 1804(?) agd 93(?) years and(?) Theodale Gibson who died Aug 17 1825 Agd 42 years / Sacred To The memory of Both was Bernard(?) who died March 8 1819 agd 70 years and Mary his wife Who died Jan 31st Ag'd 80 years, signed l.r. Executed by Mary Ann Putnam.
The lower margin with the following verse: From scenes that charm the giddy crowd / From empty pleasures light and proud / From every earthly care I come / To fix my eye upon the Tomb / Ah! Lonely mansion dark and drear / Corruption and the doom(?) are here / Draw back thy curtain let me see / Where thou has spread a place for me / How few with pensive steps will tread / O'er the green turf that shields my head / To mark the spot or from the sigh / Or gently wipe the tearful eye / Then cheerful would I be removed / From all that I have seen and lov'd / Then would my last, faint Accents be / Death beares me-Father-home to thee, matted and housed in a moulded wood frame with a gilt liner; 11.25 x 13.75 in. (sight).
