Description
Japanese Red Lacquer Box, Taisho period (1912-1926)/early Showa period (1926-1989), the inlaid mother-of-pearl box with a motif of prunus limbs and blossoms, the interior gilded, h. 5-3/4", w. 10-1/8", l. 13".
Condition
A few light scratches to the surface of the box. A few small spots of what appears to be fading due to water damage on the surface. No losses to applied mother-of-pearl. A crack (8"-9") running along one inside corner of the box and another (1") in a corner of the lid. Two nicks to the inside edge of box. Nicks and cracks are not visible when box is closed. A few scratches to the underside of the box from having been moved and displayed. No evidence of repairs.
