Description
Late Victorian Gilt Silverplate Marmalade Jar, fourth quarter 19th century, by Fenton Brothers, Sheffield, in the form of a stemmed orange, opening to reveal a fitted liner, the whole fixed to a circular saucer base with embossed acanthus banding and beaded rim, raised on three flattened spherical feet, h. 5-1/2", dia. 7-1/4".
Condition
Overall Condition: Good. No dents, breaks or repairs noted. Wear to the gilding, particularly on the textured surface of the lid and the "stem" finial. Note that the acanthus leaves on the base are not gilded, part of the original design. Marked (on the underside) "F Brs" "S" and "EP" (all in separate cartouches) and with the pattern number "3523".
