Pair of George III Sterling Silver Candlesticks, hallmarked Sheffield, 1794-1795, by John Green & Co., each with a tapering gadrooned standard above a cavetto-domed and reed-banded circular base and surmounted by a bell-form nozzle, engraved, on the base, with a crest "out of a mural coronet a demi-lion rampant, in the paws a banner tasseled", h. 11-1/2", dia. 5-1/4", weighted.
Condition
Overall Condition: Good Scattered minor bumps and scuffs, but in generally very good shape with some surface wear due to polishing over the centuries. Nice patina. Hallmarked (on the basal edge) with 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the Sheffield crown; 3) the date letter "m" for 1794-1795; 4) the George III bust duty mark; and 5) the "I.G. & C." maker's mark of John Green & Co. Marks rubbed but legible.
