Good 19th-Century American Sterling Silver Petite Flask, inscribed 1884, by Junius H. Davis & Co., fl. 1882-1887, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of traditional form, beautifully decorated all over with repousse flowers on a matte ground, the lower third detaching to serve as a gilt-lined shot cup, engraved on the underside "E.A. Markle / from / C. & J. / June 1884", h. 4-7/8", w. 2-1/2", 6.21 t. oz.
Condition
Overall Condition: Good. One insignificant dimple and a black spot on the cap, but otherwise fine with no condition issues but light wear. Superlative detail in the repousse and chasing. Marked (on the underside of the flask, i.e. the portion inside the detachable cup) "J.H. Davis & Co. / Sterling"; marks excellent. Inscribed as noted in the catalogue description on the underside of the cup. A very fine piece.
