Description
English Enamel and Bronze Necessaire, fourth quarter 18th century, the case trimmed in gilt-bronze rocaille ornament, the enamel panels decorated with landscapes or flowers and trimmed in raised gilt ornamentation, the interior divided, h. 3-1/4", w. 2-1/2".
Condition
Generally good condition. Scattered adhesive (possibly pitch) visible around edges of the bronze mounts. Bronze mounts with scattered oxidation, primarily on the cover. Oxidation to the raised gilt throughout the cover and scattered about elsewhere. Some possible early touch ups to the gilt edging below the lower front reserve (does not fluoresce). See detail photos on our web site. Faint hairline to glaze underneath where the tiny metal pin secures the interior metal hooking apparatus. Two intertwined "S" etched into the enamel at one corner underneath.
