Strong red is the dominant color in this horizontally structured lithograph in colors. Pointed stripes in orange, violet, green, yellow and turquoise break the dominance of the red and ensure an extremely vivid color effect. Piero Dorazio is considered a pioneer of abstraction in Italy in the late 20th century.
The lithograph in colors is signed and dated lower right in pencil ‘Dorazio 1976’. Lower left is the dry stamp ‘Erker Presse St. Gallen’ and in pencil the number ‘E.A.’. The condition is very good. The image size is 68.4 x 52.9 cm and the dimensions of the sheet are 84.2 x 64.8 cm.
Piero Dorazio (1927-2005)
Piero Dorazio is one of the most important Italian artists of the second half of the 20th Century and a pioneer of abstract art in Italy. He was born in 1927 in Rome. His non-objective imagery is influenced by the Italian masters Raphael and Pollaiuolo, the French Impressionists, the Italian Futurists, as well as Kandinsky, Malevich and Mondrian. Mostly, Dorazio used basic colors that he applied in strips, strokes, lines and fields. Besides painting, Dorazio dedicated himself to lithography, etching, glass windows, mosaics, ceramics and stage sets. Dorazio died in 2005 in Perugia, Italy. (tm)
