According to the author, a Los Angeles resident, whose Korean name was Kim Weon-Yong, this book was first published in the Korean language in Reedley, California in 1959, the title translating as “Fifty-year History of Koreans in America”, but no such imprint appears in WorldCat. Not to be confused with a common 1974 book, similarly titled, with another Kim as co-author, this work is a primary source of information on the American-based nationalist movement of Syngman Rhee, who spent decades in exile in the US while the Japanese controlled his country before returning to Seoul to become the first President of South Korea at the end of World War II. Kim was a long-time official of the Rhee’s Korean National Association and thus had access to the records of that organization, as well as Korean-American social and religious societies and newspapers, many hand-written and “available only from private files”.
