1966 vintage
Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux/France
Original filling quantity: 0.75 l
Fill level: 1x upper shoulder, 2x top shoulder, 1x into neck
This lot comprises four bottles of 1966 vintage Château Belgrave from the Haut-Médoc appellation in Bordeaux.
Haut-Médoc AOC encompasses 29 communities on the left bank of the Gironde with around 4,900 hectares of vines. Imbedded in this area are the famous appellations of Margaux, Pauillac, Saint-Julien, Saint- Estèphe, Moulis and Listra, whose wines could theoretically be marketed as Haut-Médoc, which naturally almost no one would do. The soil in these areas is largely lacking in shale when compared to famous communities located nearer to the Gironde. Additionally, the climate is oftentimes not as ideal as these locations.
During the classification of 1855, Château La Lagune was categorized as Troisième Cru, La Tour Carnet as Quatrième Cru and the Châteaux Cantemerle, Camensac and Belgrave as Cinquièmes Crus. Particularly La Lagune reinforced its position in recent years, while La Tour Carnet and Cantemerle also lived up to their reputations. What makes this area particularly interesting for wine connoisseurs are the circa 140 Cru Bourgeouis with Château Sociando Mallet leading the pack. It is still possible here to find good wines at comparatively moderate prices.
The fill levels are excellent (1x upper shoulder, 2x top shoulder, 1x into neck). The labels are slightly soiled; the capsules are in perfect condition.
