Early Silhouettes
American and English, 1820s - 1830s. A group of four framed silhouettes, one, in a burled frame, is a woman in a bonnet, heightened in gold, ca 1830. Another is framed in a ribbed cove gilt frame, and the subjects are hollow-cut depictions of George and Martha Washington. The final two are a pair, probably English, hollow cut, and enhanced with ink, heightened in gold. On verso of the woman's depiction is the date 1827, and a faint name,"Monty ___ ", this pair cut from circular paper with pierced and scalloped edges, and laid on gold foil; ht. of burled frame 8.25 in.
