Southern Italy, Canosa, Ca 4th century BCE. Section from a large amphora or krater, decorated with female and man-wielding a shield, colored in bright pink, blues, browns and white. One can only imagine how stunning this piece was in ancient Italy! 7"W, custom stand.
Provenance: Ex-private collection of William Dale, a career diplomat stationed in Turkey in the early 1960's, who acquired a vast collection of Greek, Roman and Near-Eastern treasures during his tenure.
