This ashtray boasts an original design that will appeal to flying enthusiasts. A Lockheed P-38 Lightning propeller plane in miniature size, held by a curved rod, is attached to the ovoid bowl.
Small decorative objects of this kind were extremely popular during the Art Deco period for they met the taste of the time with their sleek, sober design. In the late 20s and early 30s there was a real enthusiasm for aviation – not least triggered by Charles Lindbergh's first solo crossing of the Atlantic on May 21, 1927.
The ashtray is in good condition with signs of age and wear such as scratches. One propeller blade is missing. The height measures 16 cm. (tfa)
