Line Vautrin also created besides elaborate jewelry mirrors, boxes and other decorative objects, working mainly with the materials of gilt bronze; these kind of objects fetch up to €21,000t on the international auction market
This fancy and decorative brooch is made of gilt bronze and was created by the French designer Line Vautrin. The designs of the artist are inspired by poetry, mythology and wit combined with ornaments, symbols and motifs of the Early Middle Ages and antique cultures. The brooch is to be attached by a clip and is adorned with interwoven ornamentation. Line Vautrin worked preferably with the materials of gilt bronze.
The brooch is signed on the reverse ‘LINE VAUTRIN’. It is in very good condition showing hardly any signs of wear. Its dimensions are 5 x 4.5 cm.
Line Vautrin (1913-1997)
Line Vautrin was born in Paris in 1913. At the age of 15 she started to learn the goldsmith's art with her father and was already designing her own collections at the age of 21. She successfully participated at an exhibition in 1937. Being 28, she became self-employed and opened her first store on the Champs-Elysées. She developed a new material called ‘Taloses’ made of synthetic resin. Its name is an acronym from the syllablesl’aceTAte de celluLOSe ELaboré. In addition, she taught at a school until 1980 and won the National Arts and Crafts Prize in 1992. (cru)
