SET OF TWELVE WEDGWOOD BROWN TRANSFER PRINTED ‘AMERICAN SAILING SHIP’ CERAMIC DINNER PLATES 20th century
Each central recess with a different American historical sailing vessel, with title banner below, the rims with scenes of ships in city harbors alternating with a twisted rope, the underside of each with a printed wedgwood factory label, shops titles, and informational paragraph in brown.
Examples include the ‘America’, built for the London Exhibition of 1851, won and established the ‘America Cup’. The ‘Columbia’, built in 1773, which in 1787 was the first vessel to carry the Stars and Stripes around the world. The ‘Union’ build in 1794, the only sloop to have circumnavigated the world and the ‘President’, a U.S.S. Naval Frigate built in New York in 1800, with 44 guns and 400 souls.
