Item Details
Description
Ni odnogo kolosa ne ostavim v pole! [We Won’t Leave a Single Ear of Grain on the Field!], a poster by Mikhail Soloviev (1905-1991, Meritorious Art Worker of the Russian Federation). Published by Iskusstvo, Moscow-Leningrad, 1947. 84 x 60 cm.

In 1946, severe drought affected the grain-producing regions of Ukraine and Central Russia. This resulted in near-famine conditions in many rural areas that persisted until the 1947 harvest. Because of this, captions to 1947 Soviet agricultural posters are often quite urgent in tone.

Originally an easel and monumentalist painter, Mikhail Soloviev turned to producing posters in 1941, after his teacher and patron Pavel Sokolov-Skalya brought him to work for the TASS Windows operation. He continued to work in this genre after the war, and eventually became one of the principals of AgitPlakat, a boutique publishing house that specialized in propaganda posters.
