Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Proto-Nazca culture, ca. 500-300 BCE. Superb mantle with muneca fringe dating prior to the emergence of the Nazca culture in southern Peru. Comprised of thirty-seven munecas or "little dolls" - stylized figures, each with long sweeping hair, expressive faces, differentiated legs, and crossed hands that seem to be linked with their neighbors. All woven with fibers of a wide array of vivid hues - vibrant shades of red, orange, brown blue, green, and teal! Mounted to dark linen. Textile itself measures just over 40"
