Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Guerrero, Mexico, Mezcala culture, ca. 400 - 100 BCE. This kneeling monkey idol is depicted with simple, abstract features and a distinctly simian-shaped head. The Mezcala sculptors brilliantly used string-saw technology to differentiate facial features and limbs. These sculptural works are equally appealing for the inherent beauty of the stone selected by the ancients. 3-5/8"T x 1-5/8"W x2 1/2"D.
