Description
Rare Diminutive Redware Lady's Cuspidor, Stamped "JOHN BELL," Waynesboro, PA, circa 1840-1880, with footed base, tall flaring collar, and applied strap handle, the surface decorated with streaks of manganese over an olive and orange ground. Clear lead overglaze. Underside impressed with John Bell maker's mark. Handled spittoons by John Bell are considered rare, and relatively few in this small size are known. Two colored rim chips, measuring 1/2" and 3/8". Some very minor surface wear. H 3 3/8" ; Diameter (across opening) 4".
