Lady Caroline Paget (1913-1973) was the eldest daughter of the 6th Marquess of Anglesey of Plas Newydd. Whistler knew the family well and painted his most important mural for the dining room at Plas Newydd. He was in love with Caroline for years, painting many portraits of her, but his love was unrequited and Caroline finally married Sir Michael Duff, son of Lady Juliet Duff, in 1949. Exhibited at Rex Whistler. The Triumph of Fancy , Brighton Museum, 2006.
