UTAGAWA ICHIEISAI YOSHITSUYA (1822-1866); "Yorimitsu Tries to Capture Hakamadare by Destroying His Magic" (Kijutsu o yabutte Yorimitsu Hakamadare o karamen to su), Woodblock Vertical Oban Triptych, signed and with publisher's seal for Tsutaya Kichizo (Koeido), 1858 (Ansei 5), 4th month. From the Boston MFA site: "Lord Minamoto Yorimitsu, also known as Raikô, and three of his four top retainers--Urabe Suetake, Hirai Yasumasa, and Watanabe Tsuna--pursue the notorious thief Hakamadare Yasusuke. Hakamadare attempts to evade capture by using magic to create a distracting illusion of a battle between a bear and a giant snake". In single black box frame with three window mat, glazed. OS: 21 1/2" x 37", 9 1/2" x 14" sheets showing. Very good condition, not examined out of frame.
