Magnificent Circa 1895 Silvered SLAVE-LIVERY of "Black History" Design Button
Silvered “SLAVE LIVERY” Design Button, with Original Full Shank and back imprint, “PITT & Co., 31 Maddox St., London.,” Choice About New.
27mm. (About the size of a quarter). This impressively designed high-relief Coat Size Button has the portrait of a Black Negro Slave wearing his headband tied at the back, facing left. There is a raised outer band highlighting the central image, no date, likely 1895 or so by its manufacture. The face of this button is fully Silvered, only a small bit of tone and flaking found at the raised outer band at right, otherwise fully bright with just light wear seen. The reverse has its full original Shank intact and clear legends on the back design. The first of this great looking historic Black History related type we have offered.
