Impressive Stamped Civil War Period Saber with Scabbard
c. 1860, Mansfield & Lamb Model 1860 Saber with Scabbard
An exquisitely well-preserved Sword from the Civil War period. This was the primary Saber of the Federal cavalry by the end of the war. This Saber has a wood handle and brass hilt with three branches. Pommel cap and guard are unadorned. The blade measures 34.75” and the handle approximately 6". Blade is stamped by the manufacturer “Mansfield & Lamb, Forestdale, R.I.” and the opposite side is stamped “U.S., JCW, 2, 1864.” The scabbard measures 36.5”. The scabbard is iron with iron mounting rings, and it has a few dents. An exceptional weapon that will complement any collection.
